James Martin: 'I'm f***ing broken' Saturday Morning host apologises in emotional update

JAMES MARTIN - the host of Saturday Morning and former Saturday Kitchen favourite - has taken to Twitter with an emotional update amid the coronavirus pandemic and the death of his close pal, chef Michel Roux.

James Martin told his 660,000 Twitter followers how he was "f***ing broken" after recent events. The Saturday Morning presenter apologised for his language as he opened up about his concerns, days after the death of Michel Roux.

The 47-year-old said what was happening in the UK was "beyond belief" and urged people to come togther.

The chef admitted he was feeling "so helpless" as many restaurants were closing after the latest goverment advice in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

James himself has six establishments - in Manchester, Hampshire's Chewton Glen and four across stations and airports.

He had initially tweeted: "What this country and the world is going through is beyond anyone's belief.

"For it to happen and to do so so quickly and to have an affect on everyone's lives is more than words can say."

The small screen regular said what was needed was "support and togetherness" in all industries, and "none more so than in ours".

James continued: "We all have enjoyed the best hospitality in the world that has gripped this nation, certainly in my generation but also in the past and future ones to come.

"Without all the hard work from all in this industry their passion, their togetherness, their work ethic it wouldn't be the leader around the world that it has become."

James urged the general public to "support it where you can" and "help all the teams around the UK, from hotels and restaurants to cafes and clubs, get through this and grow".

He then posted: "On the other side I will do everything in my power to help chefs, waiters, hotels, restaurants, producers and suppliers to have a voice to the public at large and praise this amazing business as I've done all my life and will continue to do so."

The star then went on to discuss his own grief, hinting at the death of his pal Michel, 78, on March 11.

He did not name the French restaurateur by name, after previously addressing his death online.

James said: "To be honest I'm f**king broken from losing one of the best in the business and a real mate.

"Feeling so helpless as stuff is being taken out of our control, like so many I've talked to in the last 72hrs, but together, and only together, we can and will get through it."

"Massive love to you all, I love this job," James signed off. "P.S sorry for the f word."(sic)

One user replied, telling him: "This time will pass, but the passing of one of our best has almost been missed at this time."

"Never with me boss," James wrote back.

Michel died on the night of March 11 at his home in Bray, Berkshire, following a history of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

James paid tribute shortly afterwards, posting: "Words cannot describe what this man did for me in my life... he taught, he listened, he advised and he strengthened every part of what I do.

"Michel I love you, always have and always will... take care my friend and I will see you soon."
